17.09, 19:00–20:00 (Europe/Berlin), Kleiner Saal
Language: English

The talk will be followed by an open discussion.

"Queer Animals - Why Animal Liberation is a Queer Issue" seeks to shed light on how different mechanisms of oppression work in similar ways and why they need to be combated together. During this talk, the following questions will be addressed: How does the patriarchy seek to legitimize the oppression of and violence against non-human animals, women and queers? Is eating meat 'manly'? Why is the debate on what is 'natural' so central to the oppression of queer people and non-human animals? And: Can 'gay' penguins ever be 'out' whilst living in a zoo? The talk will be followed by an open discussion.
